From The BeginningI found a love for mountain biking back in 1980 and I was one of the first people to be doing it then. We would ride on hiking trails on the North Shore Mountains as there were no bike specific trails at the time. This lead to many close encounters with hikers as well as many sections being unrideable because the trails were made for the hikers.

First Trail WorkIn 1982, after a while of walking a section of St. Georges hiking trail on (Mount Fromme) that was to steep for us to ride, I realized that I could create a way around that section. I re-routed the trail so that we could ride the whole trail without stopping.

First Trail BuildI realized how much better the trail was now that it was all rideable and decided it was time to make a full trail for bikes. In 1987 I built it near The Cleveland Dam and I named it accordingly, Dam Trail. It was short, steep and technical without any features.

North Shore ExtremeI sold the first copy of my movie North Shore Extreme in 1997. It was the first mountain biking movie to be made and it consisted of two hours of people riding my trails. I taped a camera to my helmet and rode behind my friends to get the footage which hadn't been done at the time yet.

North Shore Mountain Bike AssociationIn late 1997 I co-founded the NSMBA to stand up for us trail builders and our trails. There was a series of trail sabotages ad rumors that Grouse Mountain was going to take over the trails on Mount Fromme. The NSMBA worked with the city to make their trails legal and eventually make sustainable trails for everyone to use in the city of Vancouver.
